Camp Pelican

Between 1933 and 1942 forty-five hundred CCC camps were built across America. Young unemployed men 18 to 28 years of age were offered work in these camps. Nearly all of the camps were dismantled following their closure. One of these was Camp Pelican which has been “lost in the woods” for 70 years. This new book contains over 250 photos of the buildings, camp staff, enrollees and work projects. The author describes the Minnesota CCC organization and presents numerous biographical sketches of the camp’s army officers, state forestry personnel and enrollees. The book’s appendices contain lists of camp personnel, an enrollee roster with over 600 names and eight pages of color photos of CCC rank insignia.
